A.K.C. CANINE GOOD CITIZEN ® CERTIFICATION TEST
WE'RE SORRY, BUT WE WILL NO LONGER BE SCHEDULING THE GOOD CITIZEN TESTS ANYWHERE.
All breeds of dogs (mixed or purebred) who have been trained to obey basic obedience commands and who can remain calm when faced with distracting situations in public places, are welcome to try to earn a Canine Good Citizen ® Certificate.
Your dog will be tested on ten skills outlined in the American Kennel Club Canine Good Citizen ® program. These skills demonstrate her responses to basic obedience commands, and indicate whether she will behave in a well-mannered way when out in public and in the midst of distractions. Passing this test will also entitle a dog registered or listed with the AKC to have CGC™ added to her title record, and appear as a part of her titled name.* |
Students who pass all ten parts of the test will receive the paperwork needed to obtain their official certificate from the American Kennel Club.* Passing students also may purchase a collar tag or an embroidered patch (to sew on a jacket -- or your dog's bandana!). We send a list of all dogs who earn their Canine Good Citizen ® Certificates to the American Kennel Club in New York, to be recorded officially on your dog's record.
If there are some skills you don't pass during the test, your Evaluator can advise you what to work on at home to prepare for passing the remaining skills to earn your certificate. Practicing with your dog in a group class can help your dog to become more reliable around distractions.
*PLEASE NOTE: If your dog passes all ten skills, your evaluator will provide you with the testing paperwork and other information necessary to receive your Certificate and Title from the American Kennel Club. However students are responsible for completing the process by sending all required paperwork to the AKC, along with additional fees payable directly to the AKC.

Announcements and Reminders
ANNOUNCEMENT: JULY 2nd, 2023:
BAD NEWS: On Thursday evening, June 29th, Patty took a very bad fall here in the house, and went to the ER where she was diagnosed with a FRACTURED NECK !!
She will be pretty much incapacitated for at least the next 8 weeks, and we don't know yet if she will need to have surgery. She has to wear a very uncomfortable neck brace 24/7, which prevents her from seeing the ground in front of her or looking to the left or right. It is very important that she does not move around too much, and especially not to trip over a dog! A jolt to the neck could cause paralasis or even death!
We are in the process of calling all of our clients who have reservations for boarding from July 15th until the end of August to let them know that they will need to find someone else to take care of their dogs, at least for this time. (Fortunately our daughter and 16 year old grandson are here visiting from Algeria, and they are filling in on the duties that I usually do, but they will only be here for the next 12 days) Paul is also doing his best, but if he has a problem and also becomes incapacitated as well, then we will really be up a creek! We will re-evaluate how I am doing perhaps in September, but it is very possible that we may make the decision to close our business. We are truly sorry for this to happen, but we are trying our best to do what we can to keep going.
For now, we are not going to take any reservations for boarding or daycare. You can check back with us in September to see if we have made a decision to start taking dogs again or not. Please watch for an announcement here on this website as well.
