AKC CANINE GOOD CITIZEN ®
CERTIFICATION TEST

Dog Services Unlimited - Serving Southern California Dog Owners Since 1969

A.K.C. CANINE GOOD CITIZEN ® CERTIFICATION TEST

WE'RE SORRY, BUT WE WILL NO LONGER BE SCHEDULING THE GOOD CITIZEN TESTS ANYWHERE.

All breeds of dogs (mixed or purebred) who have been trained to obey basic obedience commands and who can remain calm when faced with distracting situations in public places, are welcome to try to earn a Canine Good Citizen ® Certificate.

Your dog will be tested on ten skills outlined in the American Kennel Club Canine Good Citizen ® program. These skills demonstrate her responses to basic obedience commands, and indicate whether she will behave in a well-mannered way when out in public and in the midst of distractions.

Passing this test will also entitle a dog registered or listed with the AKC to have CGC™ added to her title record, and appear as a part of her titled name.*

Students who pass all ten parts of the test will receive the paperwork needed to obtain their official certificate from the American Kennel Club.* Passing students also may purchase a collar tag or an embroidered patch (to sew on a jacket -- or your dog's bandana!). We send a list of all dogs who earn their Canine Good Citizen ® Certificates to the American Kennel Club in New York, to be recorded officially on your dog's record.

If there are some skills you don't pass during the test, your Evaluator can advise you what to work on at home to prepare for passing the remaining skills to earn your certificate. Practicing with your dog in a group class can help your dog to become more reliable around distractions.

*PLEASE NOTE: If your dog passes all ten skills, your evaluator will provide you with the testing paperwork and other information necessary to receive your Certificate and Title from the American Kennel Club. However students are responsible for completing the process by sending all required paperwork to the AKC, along with additional fees payable directly to the AKC.
